Cuttack: Police have arrested all the four accused in the alleged murder of a youth during a cricket match at Mahisalanda village under Choudwar police limits in Odisha’s Cuttack district after conducting raids at different places on Sunday night.
The accused, identified as Smruti Ranjan Rout, Jagga Rout, Sanjay Rout and Badal Kaubatal of Berhampur village, will be produced in court on Monday, Cuttack DCP Pinak Mishra said while attributing the incident to sudden provocation. “The weapon used in the crime has been seized,” he added.
They have been booked under section 302 and 34 of IPC. While the incident is being linked to an alleged love affair, a special police team, formed to look into the matter, has intensified its probe and also ascertaining involvement of others in the case.
Meanwhile, Mahisalanda remained tense and two platoons of police to prevent any untoward incident.
On Sunday, Lucky Rout (22) was assaulted and stabbed to death during a cricket match between two teams- Berhampur and Sankarpur – at Mahisalanda village after he came to the rescue of the umpire who was manhandled by some spectators over a dismissal. While Jagga hit Lucky with a bat, Smruti stabbed him in the chest, sources said.
