Malkangiri: Four journalists were arrested by Balimela police for their alleged involvement in smuggling ganja in Malkangiri district.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team intercepted a container truck at Chitrakonda area and recovered 10 quintal of ganja.
According to police sources, the four persons were allegedly helping the ganja smugglers in transporting the banned substance from Andhra Pradesh to Punjab via Malkangiri.
Police have started an inquiry to ascertain the whereabouts of the arrested persons and their links with ganja peddlers outside the district.
In a similar seizure on July 15, around 500 kg of ganja was seized by police in the district and three persons were arrested for allegedly possessing the contraband.
The ganja was reportedly being smuggled to Haryana from Andhra Pradesh via Chitrakonda.
In another seizure on July 5, two persons were arrested on charges of smuggling ganja weighing 123 kg in a fake ambulance at Govindapalli Chhak in the district.
Cops found the banned substance in packets that were wrapped in a white cloth to pass it off as a dead body.
