Angul: Four members of a picnic party were killed in a road accident near Katada under Jarapada police limits in Odisha’s Angul district late on Saturday.
While three persons died on the spot, another succumbed on the way to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
According to police, 12 persons of Balasingha village and one of Tulasipal village in Angul district along with the driver had gone on a picnic trip to Harishankar and Nrusinghanath temples in Balangir and Gupteswar temple in Koraput district on Friday.
On the way to their village, the driver lost control of the vehicle which collided with a speeding truck and then with a mini truck carrying vegetables near Katada on NH-55.
Among the 11 injured, the condition of four is stated to be critical.
The incident took place at around 1 am.
Following information, police rushed to the spot and admitted the injured to the district headquarters hospital. But as the condition of the four injured persons became critical, they were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital. However, one person died on the way.
Of the four deceased, three have been identified as Dharani Pradhan (55) and Arun Kumar Sahu (45) of Balasingha village and Sibaram Sahu (48) of Tulasipal village. However, the identity of another deceased was not known till reports last came in.
As informed by Dr Susant Kumar Panda of the district headquarters hospital, 11 injured were admitted to the hospital. While one patient died on the way to the SCB Medical College and Hospital, seven injured persons are undergoing treatment here.
The seven injured patients have been identified as Bisweswar Pradhan, Bijay Sahu, Prasanna Pradhan, Adibandhu Sahu (42), Maheswar Sahu (50), Goutam Sahu (34) and Manoj Mishra (48).
