Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Sunday detained four more minors in connection with the violence at Market Building in Odisha capital.
With this, the number of those apprehended in the case rose to 22. with 18 of them being nabbed late on Friday on the basis of CCTV footage. The four were apprehended following raids at different places.
However, three main accused are still at large and a manhunt has been launched to nab them, police sources said.
In a tweet on Saturday, the Commissionerate Police had informed that the incident had taken place on Friday evening after a shop owner allegedly misbehaved with two customers. Following an altercation, the two customers informed their friends. The situation took a violent turn when a group of 25-30 masked miscreants came to the market and started attacking street vendors with hockey sticks and iron rods. This triggered panic in the market with both shop owners and customers running helter-skelter to save themselves.
Following information, a team of Capital Police Station rushed to the market with additional force to take stock of the situation. Police later seized five bikes and admitted two injured vendors to the Capital Hospital.
A case under rioting, promoting disharmony, wrongful loss or damage to the public or any person, and causing destruction of any property had been registered.
