Bhubaneswar: A fraudster has been arrested for allegedly duping a woman of Rs 52 lakh on the pretext of providing a duplex at Phulnakhara on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
According to information, the Pahala police arrested accused, identified as Priyabrata Mohanty, and produced him in a local court on Friday following probe into a complaint lodged by the victim.
Police sources said the victim had paid over Rs 52 lakh to Mohanty for buying a duplex at Phulnakhara on the outskirts of the capital city.
The woman had paid the money through various modes including online transactions, UPI, cheques and cash to buy the property.
However, Mohanty allegedly failed to execute the sale deed or complete the registration of the house.
Mohanty was reportedly absconding for a long time. Describing Mohanty as a professional fraudster, police said several fraud cases were registered against him at different police stations.
During investigation, the accused confessed to the offence, police said, adding that further probe is underway.
