Rourkela: Police have arrested a fraudster from Haryana for allegedly defrauding a professor of NIT, Rourkela, of Rs 45,000 on June 13 this year.
The accused has been identified as Sahil Khan (22), a resident under Firozepur Jhikra police station limits in Haryana.
According to sources, professor Dinabandhu Bag (53) lodged a complaint with Sector 3 police about the fraud on June 15. Following which, police tracked down the fraudster to Haryana and apprehended him on August 24 with the help of local police. He was then brought here on transit remand and reportedly confessed to his crime during questioning. He also informed police about his associates, Salman and Tahir, also from Haryana.
Police have seized a screenshot of a fake payment transaction by a duplicate app, a screenshot of a fake credit alert message, Aadhar card and one mobile phone from Sahil. Efforts are on to nab the other two accused persons.
