Kyiv: Another attempt to assassinate Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been foiled, reported Ukrainian media.
According to The Kyiv Post, a group of 25 people from Russian special services was captured near the Slovakia-Hungary border.
“Their goal was the physical elimination of the Ukrainian president,” the The Kyiv Post tweeted.
The Times had reported in early March that Zelensky had escaped three assassination attempts in the last week of February. Two different outfits — comprising the mercenaries of Kremlin-backed Wagner group and Chechen special forces – had been engaged to eliminate Zelensky, the report said.
War has been raging in Ukraine since Russia invaded the eastern European country on February 24.
Several rounds of peace talks have proved futile. Fresh negotiations will take place between delegations from both countries over the next two days, this time in Turkey.
Zelensky said on Sunday that Russian President Vladimir Putin is trying to split Ukraine into two.
He stated that Ukraine is willing to turn neutral and compromise over the status of eastern Donbas as part of the peace deal.
