Bhubaneswar: A fresh low-pressure area has formed over Gangetic West Bengal & neighbourhood, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Friday evening.
“Under the influence of the upper air cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal & adjoining Bangladesh a low-pressure area has formed over Gangetic West Bengal & neighbourhood at 5.30 pm today. It is likely to move west northwestwards across Jharkhand during next 24 hours and weaken gradually thereafter.”

The weather agency has issued a red warning of heavy to very heavy rain with extremely heavy falls and thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph for Sundargarh till Saturday morning.
Heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur in the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, and Jharsuguda.
Heavy rain along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely in Deogarh, Angul, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Balasore, Bhadrak, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam.
There is also a warning for thunderstorm/lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph for one or two places in Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Bargarh, Dhenkanal, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Boudh, Sonepur, Balangir, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
On August 23-24, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning ad gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh.
Thunderstorm/lightning along with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, and Dhenkanal.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coast and over North Bay of Bengal till August 23.
On August 25, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning ad gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj and Balasore. Thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely in Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal and Keonjhar .
On August 26, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning ad gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Balasore. Thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely in Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul and Dhenkanal.
