Bhubaneswar: With a fresh low-pressure system brewing over the Bay of Bengal, heavy rain is likely to resume in Odisha from Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday.
An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over West-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal Andhra Pradesh at 7.6 km above mean sea level. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over west-central-Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh – south Odisha coasts around September 11, it said.
Rainfall activity is expected to increase in the state from September 9 due to the system. Heavy rain is likely to continue till the morning of September 13. Initially, rainfall will increase over north Odisha and later over coastal, central and south Odisha districts.
The IMD has issued orange and yellow warnings for different districts of the state during the period.
The system is likely to move inland by September 14, following which rainfall activity is expected to gradually decrease across the state.
In its midday weather bulletin, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued an orange warning of thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching up to 40-50 kmph) over the districts of Baleshwar, Sundaragada, Sambalpur, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj in next 24 hours.
Similarly, a yellow warning was issued Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagada districts during the period.
