Fresh Low Pressure In Next 72 Hours, IMD Issues Yellow Warning For 9 Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar: While most parts of Odisha have received heavy rainfall under the influence of a low pressure — triggering flood-like situation in Malkangiri, Dhenkanal and Balasore districts — the state may receive more rainfall as a fresh low-pressure area is most likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal in the next 72 hours.

In a mid-day bulletin on Sunday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the well-marked low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand and north Odisha has weakened into a low-pressure area and now lies over south Jharkhand and neighbourhood, while a monsoon trough stretching from the west-central region is passing through the centre of the low-pressure area. Under its influence, another low-pressure area is most likely to form over the North Bay of Bengal in the next 72 hours.

As heavy rainfall will continue for three days, mostly in the interior region under the influence of the present low pressure, IMD has issued orange and yellow warning for the following districts.

August 16
(Orange warning)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the district of Malkangiri.

August 17
(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh.

August 18
(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.

August 19
(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore,  Sambalpur, Deogarh and Angul.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off the Odisha coast during the next 24 hours as strong surface wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph will make the sea condition very rough.
