Bhubaneswar: A fresh low pressure area is likely to form over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal around September 5, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Monday.
Under its influence, heavy rain may resume in some parts of Odisha after a brief lull.
On September 5, heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) accompanied by thunderstorm with lightning may occur at isolated places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada and Gajapati districts. Heavy rain may continue in Koraput, Malkangiri, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Ganjam and Gajapati during the subsequent 24 hours.
While there are no further warnings, light to moderate rain/thundershower is likely at many places in South Odisha and at a few places in North Odisha, it added.
According to IMD’s extended weather forecast, overall rainfall activity is likely to be above normal with possibility of isolated heavy to very falls at a few places and isolated extremely heavy falls during first half of the week between September 6 and 12. “There is also moderate probability of formation of a low pressure over North Bay of Bengal during first half of the week,” it added.
