Bhubaneswar: The SOA’s Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) predicted rains across Odisha next week due to the fresh Low Pressure Area (LOPAR) that is likely to form over north-west Bay of Bengal on September 20.
While the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in Odisha from September 18, the SOA, however, predicted light to moderate rainfall from September 19 and heavy to very heavy rainfall on September 21 and 22.
An upper air cyclonic circulation, expected to form over west-central Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood on Saturday, could lead to the formation of the LOPAR, a CEC bulletin said.
The system was likely to move in a north-westerly direction towards western Odisha and Chhattisgarh from September 21 but would have its impact on coastal Odisha up to September 20.
Under its influence, it said, light to moderate rainfall would commence from September 19 afternoon and continue till the night of September 22 over Odisha. Initially, moderate rainfall would be experienced in the districts of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada and Koraput on September 19 and 20 after which the rains would shift to north Odisha from the night of September 20.
Western Odisha districts could experience heavy to very heavy rainfall in one or two places on September 21 and 22, the bulletin said. Bhubaneswar could get moderate rainfall on September 20 and 21, it said.
