Bhubaneswar: Heavy to extremely heavy rain is likely to pound several parts of Odisha over the next five days under the influence of low=pressure area that formed over the Bay of Bengal on Tuesday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a special bulletin that the low-pressure area over Northwest Bay of Bengal persisted over the same region. It is likely to become more marked over the same region during next 24 hours. It will move west-north-westwards thereafter across Odisha during the subsequent 24 hours.
Under its influence, rainfall of varied intensity together with thunderstorm may lash different districts of Odisha up to the morning of September 7.
For next 24 hours, the IMD has issued a red warning for Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sundargarh and Jhaarsuguda districts. Scattered heavy to very heavy rain with isolated extremely heavy falls and thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at some places over these districts.
Similarly, orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph was issued for the districts of Puri, Khurda, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Cuttack, Koraput, and Nabarangpur.
Yellow warning of heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph was issued for the districts of Balangir, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Bargarh, and Malkangiri.
Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Rayagada
On September 3-4, orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph was issued for the districts of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, and Sambalpur.
Yellow warning of heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph was issued for the districts of Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Koraput, Balangir, and Nuapada during the period.
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, and Malkangiri.
As squally weather may prevail and sea conditions will be rough, fishermen are advised not to venture into North and West-central Bay of Bengal and along and off Odisha coast and deep sea area of North and West-central Bay of Bengal till Wednesday.
