Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) here on Wednesday forecast rainfall accompanied by lightning in coastal and interior districts of Odisha due to formation of a fresh low pressure system near Andhra Pradesh coast in the next 12 hours.
Duty Officer Madan Mohan Das said Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Balangir and Kalahandi districts are likely to experience more rainfall activity accompanied by thunderstorm under the impact of this low pressure. A few districts of coastal and interior Odisha have already been receiving light to moderate rainfall because of the cyclonic circulation, he added.
The weatherman further said that monsoon was still active in Odisha and covered all areas except Balasore. The state had received 2 per cent surplus rainfall till date, he added.
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued thunderstorm and lightning alert for nine districts including Bargarh, Boudh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Sonepur, Sambalpur and Sundargarh till 4 pm on Wednesday. Spells of heavy rainfall are also likely at one or two places in these districts.
