Jagatsinghpur: The friends of a girl student foiled the attempt of a youth to kidnap her from college campus in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district on Saturday.
According to sources, the girl student of Plus II first year in Paradip College in the district had gone to appear at an examination on the day. After the examination was over, while she was coming out of the room with her friends, a non-student tried to attack her.
As the girl ran towards a classroom, the assailant, identified as Sunil Kumar Sahu of Pitambarpur under Pradip Lock police station, chased her. He caught hold of her and beat her up. He also took away her mobile phone and bit her on her cheeks.
Sunil then attempted to kidnap the injured girl by dragging her to a car parked outside the college campus. But the girl’s friends and other students came to her rescue. They caught hold of Sunil and thrashed him. Later, they handed him over to police.
On being informed, the girl’s father, who belongs to Sunil’s village, came to the college. He filed a complaint at the Paradip Model police station. On the basis of the complaint, the police detained Sunil and started investigation.
