From Buddhist Heritage To Tiger Reserves: Odisha’s Eco Retreat Adds 4 Unexplored Circuits

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Tourism is set to upscale its luxury glamping footprint across the state by expanding its flagship Eco Retreat initiative to 10 high-potential destinations for the upcoming seasons.

To drive this expansion, the Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC) has invited competitive bids from qualified hospitality operators under a Premium/Viability Gap Funding (VGF) revenue model for a five-year tenure spanning 2026–27 through 2030–31.

The upcoming circuit integrates four brand-new locations — Similipal, Mahendragiri, Ratnagiri (Diamond Triangle), and Kolab in Koraput — aimed at decentralising luxury tourism into unexplored wilderness and heritage corridors.

Key Destinations for the 2026–31 Eco Retreat Circuit

>> Konark, Puri: Pristine coastal glamping near the UNESCO World Heritage Sun Temple.
>> Sonapur Beach, Ganjam: Tranquil beachside setup along the southern coast.
>> Daringbadi, Kandhamal: High-altitude retreat in the “Kashmir of Odisha”.
>> Talamali, Koraput: Scenic high-altitude valley in the Eastern Ghats.
>> Kolab, Koraput (New): Lakefront glamping overlooking the Kolab reservoir.
>> Hirakud, Sambalpur: Waterfront glamping on the banks of Asia’s longest earthen dam.
>> Satkosia, Cuttack: Wilderness stay near the gorge ecosystem of the Mahanadi.
>> Kusumbandh, Similipal, Mayurbhanj (New): Forest glamping gateway to the Similipal Tiger Reserve ecosystem.
>> Ratnagiri-Lalitgiri-Udayagiri (Diamond Triangle), Jajpur (New): Heritage eco-stay focused on ancient Buddhist circuit archaeological sites.
>> Mahendragiri, Gajapati (New): Adventure glamping set against the second-highest mountain peak in Odisha.

The five-year VGF framework invites private sector expertise to manage luxury Swiss tent setups, water sports, wellness facilities, and curated local culinary trails. By blending high-end accommodations with ecological sustainability, OTDC aims to position Odisha as a premier destination for eco-adventure, heritage exploration, and experiential luxury travel.
