From Rumoured Rivals To Le Mans: Vijay To Flag Off Ajith Kumar’s Race

Chennai: In a moment that has caught Tamil cinema fans by surprise, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor Vijay is set to flag off the Le Mans race featuring actor and motorsport enthusiast Ajith Kumar.

The development has grabbed attention given the two stars’ decades-long reported rivalry and the intense fan wars that have surrounded them over the years.

The official Le Mans Cup social media handles confirmed that Vijay will be the special guest at the upcoming race, where he will wave the ceremonial green flag.

They wrote, “A special guest will be waving the green flag at Silverstone this weekend! C. Joseph VIJAY.”

They further added, “The Indian actor and Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu @actorvijay, will be joining us to support our Indian drivers in the UK and officially start the #SilverstoneRound in front of the 44-car grid. We can’t wait to go racing this Saturday! #LMC #Michelin.”

Meanwhile, Ajith Kumar Racing has confirmed that Ajith Kumar will compete in the upcoming Le Mans race, sharing a video of the actor on the Silverstone track.

“Before the cars roar, the team walks every inch of Silverstone..Reading the kerbs, the cambers, the braking zones. This is where the race really begins,” the team wrote.

The announcement has sparked a wave of reactions from fans, particularly after years of online and offline clashes between the respective fan bases of Ajith and Vijay amid their perceived rivalry.

“Two generations of anil-aamais who fought for 2.5 decades realising their whole life was a scam,” one fan wrote.

“Imagine showing this to a random anil or aamai in the 2010s,” another commented.

“Anil” (squirrel) is a derogatory term used by rival fan groups for Vijay’s supporters, while “aamai” (tortoise/turtle) is similarly used to refer to Ajith’s fans.

“Never imagined Ajith and Vijay fans would unite together,” an excited fan wrote.

“Only the rivalry group knows the value of this meet. It’s been almost three decades of hate and war, it’s now officially gonna end for good. COLDEST collab on cards,” another fan commented.

One fan wrote, “Before AK Racing and VJ TVK eras, this duo witnessed peak offline and social media fan wars. In TN, every group would have Anils and Aamais. We expected this reunion much earlier but it is happening now. So putting hatred aside, let’s enjoy this moment.”

The reported rivalry between Ajith and Vijay has been discussed by the actors and their families over the years. In February this year, Shalini Ajith Kumar opened up about their equation and addressed the public perception surrounding their alleged rivalry.

She said, “It’s a good relationship; they both are very happy for each other’s success and everything. It’s beautiful.”

Ajith has also addressed the reported rivalry in past interviews, maintaining that he has always wished Vijay well and respected his success.
