Brahmapur: Three fruit shops suffered extensive damage as a major fire broke out at a vending zone near Bijipur Pond in Odisha’s Brahmapur city in the early hours of Friday.
No one was reported to have been injured in the incident that took place in the wee hours, Fire Service officials said.
After receiving information about the incident, fire service personnel immediately rushed to the spot and launched an operation to contain the blaze. At least three fire tenders were pressed into service in the operation.
After prolonged efforts, firefighters brought the blaze completely under control and prevented it from spreading to other parts of the vending zone. The extent of the losses was yet to be assessed at the time of reporting.
While an electrical short circuit is suspected to have triggered the fire, the exact cause is yet to be ascertained.
