Bhubaneswar: Funds for more than 6.5 lakh pucca houses sanctioned by the Central government for Odisha between 2016-17 and 2022-23 were returned, the state Assembly was informed on Tuesday.
In a written answer in the House, Panchayati Raj Minister Rabi Narayan Naik said that a total of 6,56,945 pucca houses granted under the rural housing scheme returned as the list of eligible beneficiaries was not submitted by the state.
The Minister was replying to a question by Balasore MLA Manas Kumar Dutta in the House.
The pucca houses which had been sanctioned during the period have returned as the previous government failed to provide the list of eligible beneficiaries under the scheme.
While the Union government has so far sanctioned a total of 42,18364 houses under the rural housing scheme, as many as 36,57,847 houses have so far been completed, he said.
Similarly, as many as 5,27,604 houses are now under construction, while work on 32,913 sanctioned houses is yet to start. A total of 1,26,719 families have applied for rural houses, the Minister added.
