New Delhi: Gadar 2 has made history by becoming the second Hindi film to enter the Rs 500 cr club after Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan. The sequel of Sunny Deol’s 2001 mega blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, it netted Rs 8 crore on its fourth Sunday, taking its total to Rs 501 cr, industry tracker Sacnilk reported.
With this, Gadar 2 box office collection has breached the Rs 500-crore mark, making it the third-ever film to hit the hallowed club in a single language in India, after SS Rajamouli’s Bahubali 2: The Conclusion and Pathaan. The Anil Sharma directorial is also the fastest film among the three to enter the prestigious club.
While Baahubali 2 and Pathaan took 34 and 28 days respectively to cross Rs 500 cr, Gadar 2 achieved the feat in 24 days. The film did the numbers despite box office face-off with Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2, which also released on August 11. While the India collections of Gadar 2 stand at Rs 501 cr, its worldwide numbers have crossed Rs 650 cr.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “Gadar2 continues to dominate in mass pockets… Will be interesting to see how it performs in the heartland / #Hindi belt once #Jawan arrives [on Thu]… [Week 4] Fri 5.20 cr, Sat 5.72 cr, Sun 7.80 cr. Total: ₹ 501.17 cr. #India biz. #Boxoffice.” He added its milestones in another tweet.
According to Sacnilk, Gadar 2 has now become the 10th highest-grossing Indian movie of all time, beating Baahubali – The Beginning, which had scored 650 crores worldwide in 2015. The film will now chase the record of being the highest-grossing Hindi film, currently held by Pathaan, which stands at Rs 524 cr (Hindi).
The Shah Rukh Khan-led spy actioner, released in January, had grossed more than Rs 1000 cr at the global office–a worldwide record that Gadar 2 will not be able to match.
