Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Birendra Kumar Das of Odisha’s Gajapati collapsed on stage while singing at a cultural programme in Paralakhemundi.
The senior officer was immediately rushed to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) at Paralakhemundi and then shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur as his condition deteriorated, sources said.
However, doctors in Berhampur reportedly declared him dead. The exact reason of the sudden death is yet to be ascertained. The incident, stated to be a case of suspected heart attack, has sent shockwaves in the state.
As per sources, the district administration had hosted a cultural event at Parlakhemundi Brundaban Palace on Wednesday night. Das was singing at the function when he felt uneasy and collapsed on the stage.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday expressed grief over the demise of Birendra Kumar Das.
“Late Das was a dedicated and duty-bound officer who always worked tirelessly for the benefit of the public. He was highly praised for his administrative skills and was an asset to the state. The state has lost a capable and efficient administrator in his passing,” the CM said in a message.
The Chief Minister also conveyed his condolence to the bereaved family.
