Parlakhemundi/ Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the kin of the deceased, who lost their lives in a road accident on Luhajhar ghat under Kashinagar block in Odisha’s Gajapati district.
The Chief Minister also announced free treatment to the injured.
At least nine people were killed and more than ten others sustained grievous injuries after a brick-laden truck overturned and fell about 30-40 feet down while rolling down the hilly road after the driver lost control over the vehicle.
While five persons died on the spot, two died on the way to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital and two others succumbed to their injuries at the same hospital.
Those injured were rescued and admitted to Parlakhemundi hospital for treatment.
The ill-fated vehicle was heading towards Paralakhemundi from Anukumba village under Gumma block in the district when the mishap occurred.
