Cuttack: A week after its inauguration, a part of the gallery of a college stadium in Odisha’s Cuttack district collapsed on Saturday.
As per reports, the gallery of the stadium in the campus of Banki College in the district collapsed after a heavy downpour on Saturday morning. However, nobody was injured in the incident as the stadium was empty at the time.
The state government had approved for construction of the gallery after the students’ demand for 13 years in 2011. Though the cost of the construction work was estimated to be Rs 40 lakh, the government had sanctioned Rs 20 lakh at the time with the promise to pay the rest after completion. The Works department had executed the work.
Higher Education Minister Rohit Pujari, during a visit to Banki, inaugurated the stadium gallery on March 23. But the college authorities had not taken over the stadium citing that the construction work was incomplete.
