Gang Of 4 Looters Held In Bhubaneswar; 40 Mobile Phones, Sword Seized

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police have arrested a gang of four looters, who mostly targeted people, especially women, on deserted streets in Odisha capital during early hours of the day.

The arrested have been identified as Rajesh Digal (19), Chimaya Rout (21), Nirakar Naik (19) and Badal Nayak (25), all residents of Bhubaneswar.

The four were arrested on basis of a complaint lodged by one Bymokesh Choudhury from whom they had looted a mobile phone on November 7 while he returning to Nayapalli from Jayadev Vihar Square around 4.30 am. The victim managed to take a mental note of their vehicle numbers and moved police.

“The investigation led us to Badal and Nirakar, who spilled the beans on involvement of Rajesh and Chinmay during interrogation,” a police officer said.

The four looted cash and mobile phones from their victims between 3 am and 5.30 am. “Forty mobile phones, a motorcycle, a scooty, a sword and a knife were seized in the subsequent house searches. The accused had already spent the money that they had looted,” he said.

The officer further said criminal antecedents of those arrested were also verified. “Four cases each are pending against Rajesh, Chinmay and Nirakar, and seven against Badal,” he added.
