Sambalpur: A gang of cellphone thieves allegedly killed a member following a dispute over sharing the loot in Odisha’s Sambalpur city on Tuesday.
As per reports, the gang members including the victim, a minor boy, had stolen mobile phones from different places of the city and had gathered at Karamtuli of Budharaja locality under Ainthapalli police limits for sharing the loot.
During the discussion over the share, the minor boy, identified as Deba Jamadalia from the same locality, reportedly demanded more for his share. It led to an altercation between him and other members of the gang.
Enraged over the claim made by Deba, others beat him up mercilessly. As Deba lost consciousness and fell down, others rushed him to a local hospital. But the doctors in the hospital declared him dead and informed the police.
When a team from Ainthapalli police station arrived at the hospital, the gang members managed to escape. The police launched a search operation to trace them and sent the body for post-mortem.
Later, all members of the gang were arrested from the city and detained for questioning, the sources said.
