Rourkela: Apprehending a law and order situation, two platoons of force have been deployed near Ispat General Hospital (IGH) after the death of a youth, who succumbed after being shot at by unidentified miscreants near the Railway Colony on Friday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Jitendra Saha alias Gore (36).
Police suspect the incident to be the fallout of a gang war.
The incident took place around 7 pm on Friday when 5-6 unidentified miscreants came on three motorcycles and opened 8-10 rounds of fire on Jitendra and his aunt Laxmi Devi in front of their house at Railway Colony.
Soon after the incident, Plant Site Police led by Rourkela SP Mukesh Kumar Bhamu and Additional SP Sangram Keshari Behrea rushed to the spot and admitted the duo to the ICU at the IGH. Jitendra, who had sustained bullet injuries in his hand, chest and shoulder, died late in the night. The condition of the woman, who had sustained bullet injuries in her leg, is stated to be stable.
Notably, the Plant Site Police had arrested Jitendra and his nine associates for the murder of Dilshad Khan (45) near a park at Railway Colony on June 7 last year. After remaining in jail for eight months, Jitendra was released on bail.
Former Rourkela SP K Siva Subramani had briefed the media that there is a prolonged rivalry between the gang members of Dilshad and Jitendra.
