Gangadhar Meher Irrigation Project In Odisha’s Bargarh To Be Operational By September

Bargarh: The Gangadhar Meher Lift Irrigation Project in Odisha’s Bargarh district will be operational from September.

This was revealed during the second day visit of secretary (5T) chief minister VK Pandian to the district on Tuesday. He visited the project site over Jira river at Girsul and the pump house in Bargarh block and reviewed the progress of works.

The test run of the project, which is nearing completion, is planned for July. It will be operationalised in phases from September. The project is executed with a cost of Rs 1677 crore and will provide irrigation to 25,600 ha in Bijepur, Barpali, Sohela and Bargarh blocks.

Pandian reviewed the progress of the project works in Nrusinghanath Temple complex. The beautification of the temple campus and the facilities for pilgrims have been taken up at a cost of Rs 22.78 crore and are expected to be completed by December.

He visited the under construction 30-bed MCH building in Sohela CHC. He interacted with the patients and enquired about the quality of the services.

He also attended the public grievance redressal meetings at Sohela, Ambabhona and Padampur. He assured the people that their grievances will be examined in detail and action taken promptly.

The secretary visited the High School in Paikamal and interacted with the students and teachers. He participated in the Vijeta initiative trainers program which focuses on the extra-curricular personality development activities.

He visited Kasturba Gandhi Matru Niketan Child Care Insitution, Paikmal and interacted with the children. He also went to various temples on the request of local people and discussed with the temple committees regarding the development.

Secretary, Sports & Youth Services R Vineel Krishna, IG Deepak Kumar, Bargarh Collector Monisha Banerjee, SP Prahlad Sahai Meena and district officials accompanied Pandian during the visit.
