Sambalpur: Ten students of Gangadhar Meher University (GMU) in Odisha’s Sambalpur sustained injuries following a clash between two groups over the distribution of volunteer passes for ‘Sambalpuri Din’ celebration.
According to sources, a brawl broke out when a group of students reportedly belonging to Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) mocked another group of students associated with Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) for not being able to get the passes for the event being organised by a city-based organisation on Tuesday. Later, non-students also joined the fight in which many were injured.
On being alerted by varsity authorities, police reached the spot and detained a couple of students in connection with the incident. Those injured were admitted to district headquarters hospital. One of the students was stabbed in the cheek and received 4 stitches while another sustained head injuries, the sources added.
