Jharsuguda: A woman was allegedly gangraped in an abandoned house in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district on Thursday.
The matter came to light after a video of the heinous crime went viral on Friday.
According to reports, the accused was working as a helper in a private bus and lives in the bus stand area. He, with the help of another man, forcefully brought the girl to an abandoned house and were forcing themselves on the woman when they were filmed by some passerby.
Immediately acting on the incident, Jharsuguda SP Bikash Dash stated in a tweet that swift action was taken into the matter. An inquiry was conducted by Jharsuguda IIC Sabitri Bal and IIC, GPRS, Jharsuguda, Saudamini Nag following which the main accused was apprehended.
The accused has been handed over to IIC, GPRS for necessary action, the SP said and added that the victim has also been traced.
On the other hand measures are being taken to apprehend the second accused.
Meanwhile, the SP, GRP, Rourkela has been informed to initiate necessary follow up action, the SP stated in the tweet.
