Sambalpur/Cuttack: A day after the escape of dreaded gangster Sheikh Hyder from SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, six policemen were suspended on Sunday for dereliction of duty.
Talking to mediapersons, Sambalpur SP Battula Gangadhar said Havildar Ramesh Chandra Dehuri and five constables Bulbul Sahu, Dipak Sahu, Mohammad Mousim, Umakant Behera and Sudhanshu Majhi have been suspended with immediate effect.
The six suspended policemen were on duty outside the cabin of Surgery Ward of SCBMCH to keep a close watch on Hyder.
Briefing media earlier in the day, Cuttack DCP Prateek Singh said the authorities of Sambalpur Circle Jail had admitted Hyder to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla for gallbladder surgery. However, as the doctors referred him to SCB for surgery, he was shifted to Cuttack on March 23 this year and was under the treatment of Prof Bhuban Mohan Das.
During his stay at the SCB, six policemen of Sambalpur were on duty in two shifts to guard him, Singh said.
