Gangster Sushant Dhal Samanta Gets Five-Year Jail Term

Cuttack: Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in Cuttack on Monday sentenced gangster Sushant Dhal Samanta to five years in jail in connection with two different cases.

The court awarded three-year jail term to the gangster for allegedly possessing fire arms and two years imprisonment for illegal use of firearms. Besides, a fine amounting Rs 25,000 has also been slapped on him.

Sources said the cases were lodged at Bidanasi police station here.

Sushant had opened fire on a police officer at Bidanasi area in 1999. He is also involved in various criminal activities like tender fixing in Kendrapara.

Sushant, along with his brother Sushil Dhal Samanta, was arrested in 2016 for alleged involvement in criminal activities.

In March this year, the Commissionerate Police had shifted Sushant from Jharpara Jail in Bhubaneswar to Balangir jail after he was accused of hatching a criminal conspiracy from there.
