Paradip: An associate of gangster Tito alias Syed Usman Ali was nabbed by police from Udayabat in Paradip of Jagatsinghpur district on Friday.

Acting on specific information regarding one Niranjan Sahu in Paradip, a police team raided the area and caught hold of the accused.

Earlier, a joint team Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch led by DIG Himansh Lal along with police raided Tito’s residence at Dilawarpur village in Kendrapara district to find out his criminal antecedents.

Five platoons of police force were deployed at the spot to prevent any untoward incident during the raid.

Apart from the criminal’s residence, raids were also conducted at his relatives’ houses at different places in the district, Cuttack and Paradip.

The STF had taken Tito on a five-day remand on June 4.

The Crime Branch had appealed for 10-day remand of the gangster.

However, the Kendrapara Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court allowed it to take him on remand of five days.

A team of Crime Branch STF had picked up Tito from his house in Kendrapara district. The team had to open fire on him when he attempted to flee near Chandikhol in Jajpur district.

The gangster sustained bullet injuries and was admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Nearly four hours after the incident, the Crime Branch had nabbed six of Tito’s associates in separate raids.

Tito is allegedly involved in more than 50 cases pertaining to tender fixing.
