Phulbani: A ganja peddler was injured in police encounter in a forest near Phulbani-Brahmani hill on Sunday night.
The peddler has been identified as Muna Digal. He sustained injuries in his right knee.
According to the sources, he had attacked the officer-in-charge of Gochhapada police station and police were on the lookout for him since Friday.
On being informed about his presence in the forest, the Phulbani police rushed to the spot to nab him. Digal fired on the police personnel in an attempt to flee the spot and the latter retaliated.
Having sustained bullet wounds, he was admitted to Phulbani hospital for primary treatment.
A motorcycle and a country-made revolver were seized from his possession.
Notably, two non-bailable warrants and 11 ganja smuggling cases are pending against him.
