Nabarangpur: The police on Sunday arrested a ganja smuggler for stealing mobile phones from a shop in the district.
According to the complaint filed by the owner of the mobile shop in Chandahandi, Mohammed Sahil, at the local police station, 30 expensive phones were stolen from his shop located in front of the block office on Saturday night.
Police registered a case on the basis of the complaint. During investigation, they identified the miscreants who had stolen the phones from the the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the shop.
One of the miscreants was identified as Abhimanyu Majhi of Pujariguda village, who was recently released from jail on bail after he was arrested in connection with ganja smuggling in Deobhog of Chhattisgarh.
A police team on Sunday conducted a raid on his house and recovered 14 stolen mobile phones. Abhimanyu confessed to have committed the crime to police and revealed the identity of accomplices.
Later, police arrested Abhimanyu and forwarded him to Umerkote First Class Magistrate who rejected his bail plea and forwarded him to jail, police sources said.
