Koraput: Police on Friday claimed to have busted a ganja smuggling racket being carried out in the name of seasonal business in Borigumma area of Odisha’s Koraput district.
Acting on a tip-off about the illegal business, a team of police personnel led by the sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Borigumma conducted raid at a site at Kangarguda, police sources said.
During the search operation, the police team seized eight quintals of ganja and detained six people from the site. Investigation into the illegal trade is in progress.
As per preliminary information, one Dipu Behera of Kangarguda village under the jurisdiction of B Singhpur police station does business in seasonal products. He buys maize, tamarind, rice, millet, and other items from the locals and supplies outside the state. However, while sending these products to other states, he mixes packets of ganja also.
While Dipu escaped before the raid, police have detained his father and five others in connection with the illegal trade.
