Baripada: Police have seized ganja worth more than Rs 25 lakh from three different places in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district in one day.
According to sources, Jashipur police in the district received reliable information about smuggling of a large quantity of ganja to outside state. They launched a blocking and checking operation on National Highway 49.
During checking, the police intercepted a car and found around one quintal of ganja inside it. The seized the ganja and arrested two persons carrying the ganja in the vehicle.
In another drive against ganja, the police seized one more quintal of contraband being carried in two vehicles in Raruan and Bangiriposi. The ganja and two vehicles were seized and four persons arrested in this connection.
Speaking to media, Subrat Kumar, Karanjia SDPO, said around two quintal of ganja worth more than Rs 25 lakh has been seized and six persons arrested in the last 24 hours.
He further said 12 NDPS cases, 6 opium cutting and 6 illegal transport of ganja have been filed by the police in the district between February, 2024 and January, 2025.
