Jeypore: Police on Sunday seized at least three tonnes of ganja during a raid near Lamtaput in Koraput district.
The market value of the seized ganja is estimated to be Rs 1.5 crore.
The joint raid was conducted by Machakund and Lamtaput police after they got a tip-off on the ganja consignment being smuggled to other parts of the state.
However, the driver of the vehicle managed to escape from the spot.
According to police sources, many drug mafia from outside Odisha finance illegal ganja plantations in remote areas of the state. The harvested contraband is smuggled outside the state.
)n September 27, police had arrested two persons in connection with illegal transportation of contraband ganja (cannabis) under Chitrakonda police limits in Malkangiri district.
The cops had seized 143 kg 70 grams of ganja and a car without registration number.
The arrested were identified as Dinesh Thakar (31) of Piply Kaam under Chilchipur police limits and Rabi Sankar (28) of Sujalpur Mandi village under Sujalpur police limits.
