Ganja Worth Rs 2.5 Cr Seized In Malkangiri, 2 Arrested

Malkangiri: In a major breakthrough, Bhubaneswar Narcotics Bureau and police seized 1,500 kg of ganja at Baliela Chhak of Malkangiri district on Sunday.

Two persons, identified as Moogi Venkateswarlu (36) and Chanti Suresh (28), have been arrested in connection with the seizure.

Acting on specific information, police intercepted a salt-laden truck and seized the ganja valued at Rs 2.5 crore. The contraband was concealed below gunny bags, containing crude salt, and was reportedly being smuggled to Nashik in Maharashtra.

According to police sources, the ganja was sourced from Atchytapuram in Visakhapatnam of Andhra Pradesh.

On May 19, the Quick Action Team (QAT) of Commissionerate Police had seized ganja worth Rs 4.50 lakh from Jhinkiria village under Sadar police limits in Cuttack district.

Two brothers, identified as Narayan Pati and Lalat Pati, were arrested for allegedly possessing the contraband.

The raid was carried on a house in the village and ganja weighing about 94 kg seized from the spot.
