Nayagarh: Central Excise Intelligence officials seized 30 quintals of ganja at Ragadimada under Odagaon police limits in Nayagarh district on Friday. Two persons were arrested in connection with the seizure.
Acting on specific information, the excise intelligence officials intercepted a pick-up van and seized 75 sacks containing the contraband.
The value of the seized ganja is estimated to be around Rs 1 crore.
The huge amount of ganja was stored in an underground area of the house of a woman. The drug was being loaded and about to be transported to somewhere when the raid was conducted, sources said.
On May 27, the Bhubaneswar Narcotics Bureau and police had seized 1,500 kg of ganja at Baliela Chhak of Malkangiri district and nabbed two persons in this connection.
The ganja valued at Rs 2.5 crore was recovered from a salt-laden truck. The contraband was concealed below gunny bags, containing crude salt, and was reportedly being smuggled to Nashik in Maharashtra.
The ganja was sourced from Atchytapuram in Visakhapatnam of Andhra Pradesh.
