Malkangiri: A huge quantity of ganja valued at over Rs 2.5 crore was seized by the police during a raid in Chitrakonda area of Odisha’s Malkangiri district.
The cannabis, meant to be smuggled out of the state, was seized during the special operation in a forest near Kapatuti village under Chitrakonda block of the district, sources said on Tuesday.
The total value of the contraband weighing around 2.5 tonnes was estimated to be over Rs 2.5 crore in the open market.
Acting on a specific information, a police team carried out the raid. However, the ganja smugglers managed to flee the scene leaving behind the ganja packed in a large number of sacks.
Police have registered a case and launched a thorough probe in this connection. Efforts are on to nab the smugglers.
