Jeypore: Police seized ganja worth Rs 70 lakh from a pick-up van at Matamput village in Koraput district late on Saturday night.
Acting on a tip-off on the illegal trafficking of ganja, four teams led by the SDPO of Nandapur and accompanied by the IICs of Machhkund, Lamtaput and Jalaput police stations intercepted a pick-up van at Matamput village.
Seeing the police, the driver fled the area. Police later seized 712 kgs of Ganja worth Rs 70 lakh.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the pick-up van, having no registration number was on its way to Chhattisgarh from the border area of Andhra Pradesh.
Efforts are on to ascertain the owner of the vehicle, police said.
