Bhubaneswar: Noted Odia litterateurs Gayatri Sharaf and Suryamani
Khuntia have been chosen for this year’s Kendriya Sahitya Akademi Award.
A decision in this regard was taken by the Executive Board of Sahitya
Akademi at a meeting on Thursday.
Sharaf’s short story collection ‘Itabhatira Shilpi’ and Khuntia’s
‘Juganta’, which is a translation of Marathi book ‘Jugantara’, have
been selected for the prestigious award.
Born on August 17, 1952, Gayatri started her literary career in
1988 with her first book of short stories.
Some of her prominent books are Alokita Andhar (1988), Ainar Janhan
(1995), Nijaswa Basanta (1996), Premika Pari Kehi Jane (1998) and Bapa
Bhala Achanti (2003).
