New Delhi: Deepika Padukone has been a part of many successful films since her debut with ‘Om Shanti Om.’ Her growth, both as an artiste and as an individual has been visible throughout her journey as an actress, in the choice of films and how she portrays her character.
Every Padukone film has left a mark on the minds of the audience where relationships are concerned. Whether it was ‘Cocktail’, ‘Tamasha’, ‘Piku’, ‘Bajirao Mastani’ or ‘Padmaavat’ each of her roles makes us question the way we look at relationships. With ‘Gehrayiaan’, she has gone a notch above her former self, daring to do the kind of role, which not many actresses have attempted so far convincingly and that too, after getting married in real life.
What is more, she has never shied away from playing the ‘other woman’ e.g. ‘Cocktail’ and ‘Bajirao Mastani.’
When Cocktail was released in 2012, people were astounded by Padukone playing the third woman in the film and her character was stereotyped to be ‘bold’ and ‘outgoing’ because her character Veronica was an opinionated woman who made her own choices. The film also featured Saif Ali Khan as Gautam and Diana Penty as Meera. The three leads were shown as friends who met under unexpected circumstances and begin living together. The film smoothly delves into the different aspects of relationships-friendship and romance. Veronica was not an antagonist but a woman with various emotions. The film took the audience into the depth of that.

Tamasha
Although it was not a commercial hit, this Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor – starrer successfully portrays the inner turmoil of two individuals who are drawn to each other in a foreign land, where they can be who they want to be, not who they are. It explores the complexity that both are facing in the relationship. Padukone’s character whose heart and mind are at loggerheads over the man she loves.
Piku
This film shows Deepika Padukone both in the role of a dutiful daughter and a single working woman who want to have a life of her own.
