Bhubaneswar: The Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) in the Odisha capital began the genetic study of COVID-19 on Wednesday.
Director of the institute Ajay Parida said the samples 45 COVID-19 patients have been taken for the genetic study on the first day. A total of 200 samples will be examined and the report will be submitted in two weeks, he added.
Asked about the situation in Odisha, the ILS director claimed that there is no trace of any community transmission as most of the local cases are either primary infections or the result of having come in contacts with the infected patients.
To a question on whether the monsoon will have any impact on the spread of coronavirus in India, Parida said it will have no impact on the virus.
