New Delhi: Punjab Police’s State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Amritsar busted a Khalistani recruitment, funding and helping module by arresting Prabhpreet Singh Sidhu at Indira Gandhi International Airport here on Friday.
The arrest of Prabhpreet, an operative of separatist terror group Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF), was confirmed by Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav.
According to the DGP, Prabbhpreet had been running a terrorist recruitment, funding and aiding module from Germany.
“In a major breakthrough SSOC, #Amritsar arrests Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) operative Prabhpreet Singh Germany from #Delhi International Airport. He was running a terrorist recruitment, funding and aiding module from #Germany. Punjab Police is working to unearth the whole KZF Network and other associates linked in the web. @PunjabPoliceInd is fully committed to maintain peace and harmony in the state,” the DGP posted on its official X handle on Friday.
Investigation into Prabhpreet’s activities dates back to 2020 when SSOC Amritsar received intelligence about KZF terrorist Jagdish Singh Bhura’s plans to target high-profile people in Punjab.
Four operatives linked to KZF outfit were arrested, and arms and ammunition recovered from their possession.
A case was registered under relevant provisions of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Arms Act at Amritsar. The detained individuals disclosed during interrogation about their association with Bhura and Prabhpreet, and plans to attack high-profile targets.
With Prabhpreet living in Germany, a Look-Out Circular was issued against him through Bureau of Immigration, New Delhi.
“On Wednesday, immigration authorities at the IGI Airport in Delhi informed us about the detention of Prabhpreet Singh. Subsequently, a team of SSOC Amritsar rushed to Delhi and arrested the accused,” said the DGP.
According to Additional IG, SSOC Amritsar Sukhminder Singh Mann, preliminary investigations have revealed that Prabhpreet travelled to Poland on a valid visa in 2017, and crossed over to Germany by road in 2020.
“To attain permanent residence in Germany, he applied for political asylum,” he added.
While living in Germany, Prabhpreet came in touch with Belgium-based Bhura and got involved in anti-national activities, informed Mann.
The accused also allegedly arranged funding and weapons to his Indian associates to carry out targeted killings and other disruptive activities.
