Cuttack: A Gharial was spotted in the Kathajodi river in Odisha’s Cuttack on Saturday, attracting a huge crowd on the Trisulia bridge to have a glimpse of the crocodile.
Eyewitnesses said the crocodile was seen basking in the sun on a patch of sand in the river. The Gharial was stated to be eight to ten feet long and it was lying on the sand for over 90 minutes.
As news of the Gharial’s sighting spread, a large number of people gathered on the Trisulia bridge over the river to watch the scene.
As the gathering caused a traffic jam, personnel of the Commissionerate Police rushed to the spot to clear crowd and ensure smooth vehicular movement.
On being informed, Forest department officials visited the site. The crocodile is of the Gharial variety which is harmless to humans, they said, adding that the crocodile was basking in the sun after eating fish.
