Rourkela: The authorities of a shopping mall in the city allegedly detained a young girl for breaking a glass door as he could not pay the amount demanded by them to replace the glass.
According to sources, the girl, who belongs to Koraput and is taking nursing training in Rourkela, had gone to the mall for shopping on Tuesday. On her return, as she stepped out through the main entrance, the glass of the door crashed.
The security guard present at the spot and an employee of the mall accused her of breaking the door and took her to the office inside the building. Other employees of the mall present in the office told her to pay Rs 1.5 lakh towards replacing the door with a new one.
Speaking to the media, the girl said as she expressed her inability to pay the amount, she was detained in the office. “The mall authorities did not allow me to leave the office and kept me confined there for nearly 5 hours,” she said.
They scaled down their demand to Rs 25,000 which was also a big amount for her to afford paying. She offered to give her gold chain, but they did not accept it.
Finally, the girl called up one of her friends who along with police came to the mall and rescued her.
