Bhubaneswar: A girl was crushed to death under the wheels of a school bus on National Highway-16 at Khandagiri in Odisha capital on Monday.
According to sources, the incident took place when the girl along with her mother was crossing the highway near a petrol pump this afternoon. The mother fell down after being hit by a biker. Following which, the girl rushed to her help and was run over by a school bus. She died on the spot.
The mother also sustained injuries. The school bus fled the spot soon after the accident, which also led a traffic jam on the highway.
Khandagiri police soon reached the spot, cleared the jam and seized the body for postmortem. Footage of CCTV cameras on the route are being examined to identify the vehicle which caused the accident, sources added.
