Balangir: A minor girl died after a bus hit the motorcycle on which she was travelling with her father and sister and then dragged her for around 500 metres in Odisha’s Balangir district on Tuesday.
Her father and sister were grievously injured in the mishap that took place near Gaintala on Sonepur-Balangir road, sources said.
The incident triggered tension in the area as a large number of locals staged a road blockade demanding stringent action against the driver of the bus and justice to the girl’s family. Vehicular movement came to a halt on the road due to the protest.
The mishap took place when a man was on way to Puintala block from Brahmanipali village along with his two daughters on a motorcycle to update their Aadhaar cards. Their motorcycle was hit by the speeding bus from the rear near Gaintala tehsil, following which all the three fell on the ground. One of the girls came under the wheels of the bus and she was dragged for around half-a-kilometre by the vehicle.
While the girl died on the spot, her father and sister were immediately rushed to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital at Balangir where their condition was stated to be critical.
