Girl Left With Eye Injury After ‘Thrashing’ From Teacher In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A Class 4 girl student was brutally beaten up by her teacher after she failed to solve a math question at a private institute at Dumduma Phase-2 area in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.

The nine-year-old girl sustained serious injuries near her left eye and was rushed to a private hospital. The doctor treating her said that the injury, though serious, was not life-threatening, and the child is under observation.

Meanwhile, family members of the girl alleged that the teacher’s violent behaviour crossed all limits, leaving the child bleeding and traumatised. They have lodged a formal complaint with Khandagiri police.

The accused teacher, however, denied any deliberate act of cruelty. “I didn’t mean to harm the child. I may have lightly touched her cheek, which unintentionally caused the injury. I deeply regret what happened,” she said.

Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident, which has sparked outrage among parents.
